Anurag Basu’s Barfi has exceeded all expectations at the box office. The film has now joined the 100 crore club and is definitely one of it’s kind to achieve the feat. All the other film in the 100 crore club can be termed as masala entertainers which are targeted at the masses and have all the elements (read dance, comedy, action etc.) necessary to click with the audience. However Barfi had an offbeat story and for such a film to do 100 crore business in India is truly remarkable.
The movie opened to fantastic reviews from the critics and grew from strength to strength. The production house UTV had a limited release for Barfi as it was not a mainstream film by any standards. However little did they know that the film is going to gross more than 100 crore in India and get rave reviews from the critics. Not only that Barfi has also been selected as India’s official entry to Oscars this year. It is truly commendable for a movie to enter the 100 crore with such limited release (less than 100 screens).

Barfi achieved the feat. in it’s 3rd week and is still going strong at the box office. This year has been good for Bollywood with a number of movies making it to the 100 crore club like Ek Tha Tiger, Agneepath, Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore and now Barfi.
