In a surprise of sorts, India’s first 3D dance film ABCD – Anybody Can Dance opened to better response at the box office than Special 26!
It came as a surprise because Special 26 had a superstar in form of Akshay Kumar in it whereas ABCD has no big names associated with is. Even though Special 26 is not the kind of film that usually works with Akshay fans (read: masala entertainer), still we expected it to at least open better than ABCD. The morning shows were in the range of 30-35% while for Any Body Can Dance, the opening was around 60%.
However the situation reversed by evening shows with Special 26 recording collections in the range of 60-65% while ABCD could only manage 30%. The trend was interesting and indicated that family audience would be going for Special 26 in the coming days. However the star cast of ABCD can still rejoice for the film opened to a much better response than expected, especially at the single screens.
Let’s see how these movies fare over the weekend.
