TB Birthday Special : Celebrating Rani’s finest performances

Rani Mukherjee is often called the Queen Bee of Bollywood and why not after all there was a time when she ruled the Indian film industry like no other. Today the newer actresses have more films, are more successful but Rani Mukherjee is still one of the best that we have in Bollywood. After making her debut with Raja Ki Aayega Baarat in 1997, the actress never looked back. She gave one splendid performance after another making each of them memorable for the viewers. Whether it’s the confident and bold Rhea of Hum Tum or the blind and deaf Michelle of Black, Rani has done justice to all her characters. One of the interesting things about her is that she has shared amazing chemistry with most of her co- actors whether its Shahrukh, Aamir, Saif or Abhishek Bachchan. Her most successful time period has to be from 2002-2006 where in the actress gave one hit after another like Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum, Yuva, Veer Zaara, Black and Bunty Aur Babli. Her powerful performances have won her 7 Filmfare awards. Her last release was No One Killed Jessica in 2011 for which the actress won her 7th Filmfare trophy. Rani Mukherjee will always be one of the best actresses to have graced the Indian film industry. Today on her birthday lets take a look at some of her finest performances. Rhea in Hum Tum : Rani had a crackling chemistry with Saif Ali Khan in the super entertaining Hum Tum. She played the confident and bold Rhea in the first part of the movie,and as the movie progressed we saw various other sides of the character. It was a role which required Rani to portray different shades of Rhea as she ages and goes through personal losses. Rani was top notch as Rhea, a role which won her many awards including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

 

Dr.Suhani in Saathiya : The movie was like a breath of fresh air not only because of its awesome music but also because of Vivek-Rani pairing. She played the ambitious Dr. Suhani, a medical student who runs away and gets married against her family wishes. The actress played the role to such perfection that it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role.

 

Michelle in Black : Considered by many as Rani’s finest performance she played a deaf and blind girl in Black. In spite of being pitted against the biggest actor of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan the actress was not only able to stand her own ground but also overcame Big B in many of the scenes.

 

Meera in No One Killed Jessica : Rani’s last release No One Killed Jessica saw her playing the feisty and bold Meera. Playing the reporter who fights for the Jessical Lal murder case the actress showed great variation in her role. The movie won her the best supporting actress award at this year’s Filmfare awards.

 

Rani’s upcoming movies include Taalash and Aiyaa. As the actress enters her 35th year, we wish her a long innings in Bollywood. May she continue to enchant the viewers for a long long time to come!
