Here’s a quick summary of all the Vicky Donor reviews

Total Reviews: 15

4 stars: 3

 3.5 stars: 6

3 stars: 5

2.5 stars: 1

Daily Bhaskar 4 stars: No big star cast which will attract audiences to the theatre. However, natural and brilliant performances will surely speed up the word-of-mouth publicity process for the flick. It’s definitely a must watch if you genuinely crave for different, entertaining and paisa-vasool cinema. For all the John Abraham’s fans, who want to catch a glimpse of the actor, Vicky Donor would be an entertaining blow.

DNA 4 stars: Vicky Donor marks the debut of John Abraham as producer and in choosing a sensitive topic like sperm donation, John makes sure he has the pulse of young audiences understood well. Like sex, nobody discusses infertility. Nobody goes “Oh my wife can’t conceive so we’re seeing an infertility specialist” over a drink. Vicky Donor takes the closet issue, turns it on its head and spins a light-hearted tale around it, one that fertilises genuine fun at the movies.

Zee News 4 stars: John Abraham couldn’t have had a better start to his career as a producer, for ‘Vicky Donor’ is an absolute treat for movie goers. With an exceptionally bold concept, this hunk of an actor-turned producer has pulled off a stunner, and has given Bollywood a fine talent in the form of “sperm donor” Ayushmann Khurrana. The film comes as a breath of fresh air with newer talents to explore and an innovative story to unfold.

Bollywood Hungama  3.5 stars: It’s a performance-oriented role and Shoojit Sircar has, very aptly, chosen a deserving candidate for the assignment. Ayushmann is a complete natural, has all the trappings of a fine actor and delivers a super confident performance. Vicky Donor is a small film with a big heart. The makers have had the courage to bring a diverse issue out in the open, narrating a daringly different story without getting preachy. Witty, funny and also emotional, Vicky Donor is forward-thinking, progressive commercial cinema which vastly enlightens and hugely entertains!

Movie Talkies 3.5 stars: Actor turned producer John Abraham might have taken a few years to establish himself as an actor, but as a producer, the hunky star has certainly hit a bull’s eye with his maiden venture Vicky Donor. It’s been a long time since a comedy flick with a feel good aura to it has hit the screens (something like the Sanjay Dutt starrer Munna Bhai MBBS) and the latest flick Vicky Donor exonerates itself on all fronts.

Times Of India 3.5 stars: The film entertains, without preaching sexual moralities or social service. Even the music blends beautifully with the story. The winner here is the script (Juhi Chaturvedi), penned with subtlety, oodles of non-slapstick humour, while sensitizing the cause at hand. However, the lingo gets too Punju at times and the last twenty minutes could do with some editing. It takes a man to make a film like this, literally. Kudos to John Abraham for his brave maiden production. Thankfully, this sperm hits bullseye.

Sify 3.5 stars: Indeed, the true heroes of the film are story, screenplay, dialogue writer Juhi Chaturverdi and director Shoojit Sircar (Yahaan, 2005). As also John Abraham, who turns producer, for choosing to back this unconventional film. As for the leading pair who are making the progression from TV: Ayushmann shows great promise, and serves up a fine performance while making it look effortless. Yami Gautam, too, impresses with a strong screen presence.

Indicine 3.5 stars: In his first feature film, MTV Roadies winner Ayushman Khurana proves to be a versatile actor. His dialogue delivery and body language is spot on. He manages to impress in the emotional scenes too. Most definitely, an actor to watch out for. Yaami Gautam looks pretty and acts well. Infact, every character and performance in the film is memorable – Vicky’s mother, grandmother and Ashima’s Bengali father. Overall, Vicky Donor provides wholesome entertainer. It’s a film that can be watched with your entire family, even though it talks about a taboo topic like sperm donation. Give it a try, we assure you won’t walk out disappointed.

Nowrunning 3.5 stars: No matter how good a film is, one does need star power to drive it to the audience else it’s very easy for it to be lost amidst the hoards of films that release week on week. And Bollywood hunk John Abraham surely may have come as a blessing in disguise for filmmaker Shoojit Sircar when he chose to produce a gem such as Vicky Donor. Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar makes his directorial comeback after seven years, his last being Minissha Lamba and Jimmy Shergill starrer Yahan, and it couldn’t have been a better return. He takes a topic that still gets shushed in many houses and has practically mediocre awareness and packs an entertainer around it.

Rediff 3 stars: Whether it’s to make a contribution to mankind with one’s reproductive cells or marrying outside one’s community, the running theme of Vicky Donor is acceptance, embracing things without making too much fuss, because that’s what real people do. And because this is conveyed without the aid of an insistent monologue, cheap humour or calculated soppiness, it makes John Abraham’s [ Images ] maiden production quite a pleasant viewing.

Glamsham 3 stars: Ayushmaan sinks into the skin of the character. A typical, unemployed loud 25-year-old, who speaks his heart out. His snubbing of his neighbour’s daughter and pursuing Ashima are natural. Yami Gautam too impresses with her performance. With looks to match, this girl is set to make a huge impact. VICKY DONOR is not your typical Bollywood film. It is different. Daringly different. John Abraham has done well to partner as producer in this film that should generate a good Box Office return!

Yahoo 3 stars: Movies that try to cleanse socially disreputable professions tend to get preachy and subsequently boring. But donating one’s seed to enable the seedless garden a happy family is a cause that cannot be covered in a classroom. So director Shoojit Sircar takes us to downtown old Delhi where we breeze through this hilarious adventure that ends in just 122 minutes, leaving you craving for more. While the very mention of sperm donation makes many cringe, this film manages to make the noble deed seem respectable without compromising on the hilarity that one associates with the process of donation.

Apunkachoice 3 stars: Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Vicky Donor touches upon a sensitive subject without being glum about it. Rather, the film is littered with some laugh-out-loud situations that ironically, at time, expose the hypocrisy of the middle-class. The screenplay by Juhi Chaturvedi abounds with clever moments. Best of all, the performances are topnotch, be it the Punjabi spouting Annu Kapoor or the decidedly confident Ayushmann Khurrana or the pretty Yami Gautam. All in all, Vicky Donor is a spunky comedy that very much deserves a shot!

Koimoi 3 stars: Juhi Chaturvedi’s story is novel and interesting. Her screenplay is very entertaining in the first half and makes for a fun watch. The eccentricities of the unusual Delhi migrant family, the Aroras, make for good entertainment.Director Shoojit Sircar makes a narrative which is fresh and entertaining. He must be praised for his sensitive and sensible handling of the subject of sperm donation. However, if he could have made the latter half of the drama less predictable and more impactful, the film might have turned out much better.

Deccan Chronicle 2.5 stars: Director Shoojit Sircar, whose debut-making Yahaan was extraordinary, is in form only intermittently. Thank the lord, honestly, for the ensemble of oldies, who deliver excellent, first-rate performances. Debutante heroine, Yani Gautam is skilled and restrained but downright awful in the one hysterical scene assigned to her. As for Ayushmann Khuranna, he may not have any distinct USP but oozes sufficient confidence to make Vicky Donor half-likeable.
