It's raining sequels in Bollywood

Sequels have become an integral part of Bollywood, so much so that every year we have a number of sequels lined up for release. And the sequels aren’t only restricted to two films, in fact we have had a trilogy as well with Golmaal 1, 2 and 3! It is said that the sequels are never as good as the original, however that doesn’t stop filmmakers from making them. Nowadays people start speculating about a film’s sequel even before the original one releases. Last year we saw Bheja Fry 2, Don 2 and Murder 2. While Bheja Fry 2 didn’t live up to expectations, the other two went on to do good business. This year is no different and we have as many as 7 sequels up for release in 2012. Lets take a look at them and see what they have in store for the viewers.

1. Housefull 2 : The sequel to the 2010 hit film, this one has a dozen stars in it! In fact the tagline for the movie is Housefull 2 : The Dirty Dozen. The songs “Papa to band bajaye” and “Anarkali Disco Chali” are already topping the charts. We think this one will be as mindless as the original one. But considering that mindless comedies with a big star cast often do well, we won’t be surprised if this one shines at the Box office too.

2. Jannat 2 : Emraan Hashmi’s Jannat was a surprise hit in 2008! Backed with a stupendous sounds track and some good performances, the movie went on to do good business. The team of Jannat is back with its sequel, however this time Sonal Chauhan won’t be a part of it. The film releases in May and more than anything else, we are looking forward to its sound track! The combination of Emraan Hashmi and Vishesh films hardly disappoints as far as music is concerned.

3. Raaz 3 : The movie is not actually a sequel but the next movie in Raaz trilogy. Bipasha Basu makes a comeback in the trilogy with Raaz 3. The movie which will be released in 3D will be Emraan’s second sequel of the year. Hot pictures of Bipasha Basu from the sets have been making waves already. Both Raaz and Raaz -The Mystery Continues did well at the box office, lets see what is in store for this one.

4. Race 2 : The original one had way too many twists and turns, so much so that by end of it we were quite fed up of the so called “twists” that kept popping up after every few minutes. But knowing how Abbas Mastan make their thrillers we are sure this one too will have us hanging till the last minute. Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor are retained from the original cast. The movie releases this November.

5. Jism 2 : Pooja Bhatt returns to direction with Jism 2, the sequel to the 2003 hit Jism. Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone who shot to fame with Bigg Boss 5 will be playing the main lead in the film. The fist look poster of the movie was quite bold, it showed a woman lying bare under a white sheet and took everyone by surprise. With the popularity that Leone has gained in India, we are sure that this one will get a good opening.

6. Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2 : The makers have decided to go ahead with a fresh new star cast for this sequel. Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2 will see Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan share the screen for the very first time. The actress and the release date of the the film has not been finalized yet.

6. Dabangg 2 : Undoubtedly the most awaited sequel of the year! Chulbul “Robin hood” Pandey returns to entertain the viewers once again. The movie is being directed by Arbaaz Khan and retains its original cast of Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. The movie has two item songs , one with Kareena and the other with Salman. With so much hype around it already, this one looks set to break all the records at the box office.
