Legendary Yash Chopra is no more

Legenary Bollywood director Yash Chopra is no more. He passed away this evening at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where he was being treated for Dengue for the last 9 days. It is being said that he developed multi-organ failure and that was the reason for his demise. He was 80. “Yash Chopraji breathed his last at around 5.30 pm today. Details of his last rites will be communicated later.”, was the official message from Yash Raj Films.

Yash Chopra or Yashji as he is fondly called in the industry was one of the most prolific filmmakers of India cinema. Yashji began his journey with  Dhool Ka Phool in 1959. In his long career he gave us some unforgettable movies like Deewar, Silsila, Kabhi Kabhie, Chandni, Darr etc. His last directorial venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan will release this Diwali.

His illustrious  career was marked with innumerable success stories and several awards including 6 National Film Awards and 11 Filmfare Awards. He was also honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001 and Padma Bhushan Award in 2005. He is survived by his wife and 2 sons, director Aditya Chopra and son Uday Chopra.
