Barfi is India’s official entry to Oscars

Anurag Basu’s Barfi has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. Barfi starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’cruz was released last week and has received tremendous response from the critics as well as the audience. In spite of having a limited release the film has performed exceptionally well at the box office. The movie is a love story between a deaf and mute guy named Barfi and an autistic girl Jhilmil. The silent portrayal of love has won the hearts of millions at home and now everyone hopes that it will be able to win the hearts of jury members at Oscars too.

The CEO of UTV, Siddharth Roy Kapur said “We are honoured that Barfi! has been selected for the 2013 Oscars. This is the 4th UTV film in the last 7 years to be selected.” Director Anurag Basu is also ecstatic with the news. Barfi has also been selected for the Busan film festival. The other films that were considered for India’s official to Oscars were Kahaani, Paan Singh Tomar, Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2, Heroine, Ferrari Ki Sawari, Gattu and Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan (Punjabi), Kaksparsh, Deool and Tukaram (all Marathi films).

We wish Barfi good luck for Oscars!
