SRK detained in US yet again, evokes reactions at home!

Superstar Shahrukh Khan was once again detained at a US Aiport yesterday. SRK was on his way to Yale, when he was detained at New York’s White Plains Airport for close to two hours. SRK was visiting the Yale University where he was to be honored as a Chubb Fellow. He flew to US in a private jet organized by Nita Ambani, but while others were allowed to go the actor was let off only after Yale University officials intervened into the matter and contacted Department of Homeland Security in Washington.

Shahrukh had been detained earlier in 2009 when was flying to Chicago for an Independence Day Event. Back then people had said that his detention might be a promotional stunt for his upcoming movie My Name Is Khan. However despite being detained for the second time, the actor joked about it saying “”Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself, I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kicked the star out of stardom”. The star said that “it was nice as it always happens”!

SRK’s detention has evoked a strong response from the Indian government. Minister of External Affairs S.M. Krishna has asked Ambassador Nirupama Rao to look into the matter and take it up to the highest US authorities.

The detention also saw some strong reactions on twitter by various public figures.

Karan Johar: Detaining SRK is not an error…it reflects the disdain and disregard towards the rest of the world by the US authorities!!

Shabana Azmi: Indian govt shud gift ipads to USA so their immigrations can use Google and check who they r detaining.SRK? 2nd time? Outrageous

Pritish Nandy: I have never been detained in an American airport. Not even stopped for moment. But then, I am not a Khan.

Farah Ali Khan: I do wish the US immigraion would stop detaining Shahrukh Khan as it seems to be getting into a habit now.

Sanjay Jha: Sorry Uncle Sam, but Shah Rukh Khan is more popular world-wide than Mr Tom Cruise. Go figure!
