Shocked that Vicky Donor wasn’t considered for Oscars: Shoojit Sircar

The director of Vicky Donor, Shoojit Sircar is apparently miffed with his production house for not sending in his movie to the jury which decided about India’s official entry to Oscars. Vicky Donor starring  Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam was based on the issue of sperm donor and was a runaway hit. The director said that he was shocked to learn that the production house EROS did not even send his film to the jury for consideration.

Shoojit Sircar said that he is happy for Barfi but feels that his film had a original concept and deserved to be considered for Oscars “I’m really happy for Ranbir, Anurag Basu and the whole team of Barfi! on the film’s selection as India’s entry to the Oscars. Congratulations! However, as far as my film Vicky Donor is concerned, I’m very disheartened, disappointed and angry that one of this year’s most original high concept story was not even considered by the producers of the film to be sent for jury’s consideration.”

Still from Vicky Donor

The director expressed his shock by further adding “I was in complete shock when the jury told us that they have not received the film from Eros for consideration. This purely shows their disregard for a film that brought them commercial success as well as critical acclaim. I would also like all the directors to beware of producers and watch out for their films at every stage. For somebody like me and the kind of films I make, what makes me happiest is the critical acclaim much more than the commercial gains. I sincerely hope that Eros in future does not repeat this mistake with any other film.”

We agree with Shoojit Sircar and hope that Eros doesn’t repeat the mistake again.
